Our Stories - Operation Runaway

RL is 10 years old and started coming around to her Operation Runaway support circles, however was very shy and hard to engage. Often times, she would only respond to jokes, or play a game of turning off the boardroom lights and shutting the door. The Support Circle members would joke along with RL, and engage in RL’s light banter and jokes. In February of 2024, RL was challenged to try out school. Due to the instability of her housing, she had not attended school for quite some time. RL took charge and went to her elementary school, registered for classes, and attended the very next day. By the time spring of 2024 hit, RL started engaging with the Ground Zero Outreach team. She also became very fond of coming to her support circles and providing the team updates on her weeks. Throughout the summer, RL would stay at her mom’s house every night, participate in engagement activities with Operation Runaway, and would look forward to attending her Operation Runaway support circles on Thursdays. In August of 2024, RL communicated that Operation Runaway was a very important support to her, and asked if she could continue utilizing the program “for the rest of her life” and how “she never wanted to leave”.
