Retreat Home
The Retreat Home has been open since 2019. The Retreat Home is part of a partnership between Ministry of Social Services, Saskatchewan Health Authority, and EGADZ as response to an increasing number of youths with chronic mental health and addiction issues. A focus on prevention rather than mitigating crisis resulting in fewer suicide attempts and self-harm, fewer hospital visits and ultimately more success for the youth.
Testimonial
“Coming back to the Retreat is like coming back to my stomping grounds. I feel connected to my culture here, accomplished, and have a feeling of achievement.” –Retreat client
Retreat Companion
A support dog “Mikita” resides in the home to provide the youth companionship. With her presence alone, she can help make youth feel cared for and take the focus away from their stress, helping the youth with their self-regulation. She provides comfort that eases anxiety, while building self-confidence. She is at the front and centre of emotionally supporting youth while they are in distress.
Retreat Access
Youth from all EGADZ Residential homes are able to access the retreat on an emergent basis when needing extra support and stabilization due to their mental health, transitioning back to their long-term placement when they have identified supports, resources, coping mechanisms and plans have been made possible and placed them at lower risk.
Garden of hope
Garden of Hope was created for youth by youth, to support the identified need for additional mental health and addiction support for youth in the community. The program practices our youth centered approach, supports the youth in their goals and provides a safe, patient atmosphere for stabilization.

A New Home
Garden of Hope opened December of 2023, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Services, Saskatchewan Health Authority, and EGADZ. The home was open after seeing the success of our Retreat Home, and in recognizing the need for more housing specialized to youth’s mental health. With individual case planning and tailored 1 on 1 support the youth’s length of stay in the home is determined individually, based on the youth’s needs and progression.
Stable and Supportive Living
Stable and supportive living for youth is provided for youth ages 12-18 who have or are identified as needing specific care in the areas of mental health and addictions. Staffing within the home consisting of 3 youth workers, a supervisor, a coordinator and mobile support is essential in providing the level of care needed to support each youth in all areas of their lives including transportation, advocacy, education, life skills, employment and nutrition with the focus remaining on their mental health and addictions.
Extra support is facilitated through a 7 day a week crisis team, ensuring the youth receive support needed for a crisis, emergencies, crisis prevention and immediate care.
Changing lives through youth-directed programs
The needs of children, youth and their families are the primary focus in the design and delivery of our programs and services.
