Street Outreach Program

The Street Outreach program started in September of 1993, as a special project to connect and build trust with youth involved in serious at risk street lifestyles.

The overall focus of the Street Outreach program is to connect with all youth involved on the streets who are "at risk" or are already leading "high risk" lifestyles. The greatest group of concern continues to be with individuals who are exploited and abused through street prostitution from Pimps and Johns. Through the coordination of necessary and needed services such as addictions treatment, advocating for special needs, developing alternatives to incarceration, and after care planning success is being achieved, however this area continues to remain highest on the priority list.

Outreach Workers take their services to the streets seven nights a week as well as most afternoons to connect with youth through immediate assistance such as nutrition, clothing, condoms, referrals, or just someone to listen. The outreach van is constantly stocked with a variety of printed information pertaining to the different needs, issues, programs & services required by children/youth.

Advocacy and follow up services are available Monday - Friday to ensure that youth are afforded the necessary assistance they may require in order to exit their street lifestyle. It has been through this approach that open rapport and trusting relationships have and continue to be established. Established trust has allowed for ongoing success in empowering youth who exist and are exploited on the streets of Saskatoon, to seek healthier and safer lifestyles.
